Radio buttons for placedholder variables

I’ve noticed that in my Q&As that use placeholders lists of answers appear as radio buttons instead of drop-down boxes. This is normally fine, but we often have the users select from a list of states and territories, so we end up with really long lists of radio buttons.

Is there a setting somewhere I can toggle to switch to drop-down boxes?

Good point, it’s probably a good idea to align this with the way regular predefined questions work (which switch to dropdown boxes as from 5 answers). The server will be updated one of the coming days!
