Titles as headlines in WYSIWYG editor

Our workflow is currently the following: we export the document of the completed form to word, where we copy the contents to a WYSIWYG editor. The titles of clauses are not recognized as headlines editor, which is why the titles are not recognized as ‘headlines’ in Word.

Can you help me understand what I need to do in order to make clause titles as word headlines (from H1-H6).

Thanks

Be warned that this is a jungle: copy/pasting content from one editor to another is always a pain, and particularly when the target is a web editor.

It will completely depend on your target editor how things work out, so it’s a complete shot in the dark to answer your question. But even so, a few things to try:

  • Clause9 allows you to specify a custom name for each heading & title. See screenshot below.
  • Most editors will search for names such as “Heading”, “Title”, etc. inside the name.
  • You may also want to experiment with changing the name of the styles from the DOCX exported by Clause9. Note however that MS Word’s conversion from DOCX to HTML is notoriously bad — horrible in fact, full of junk that is difficult to understand by web editors.
  • I would experiment with a few different word processors, instead of merely Word (e.g., LibreOffice or Apple Pages). Some of them allow you to specify how to map the name of a certain heading to a certain output format, and may offer cleaner output than what Word does.
  • Perhaps it’s also interesting to try exporting as email body (see screenshot #2 below). Technically this causes Clause9 to export to HTML, in a much cleaner format than MS Word does when you would instead export to DOCX from Clause9, open in MS Word, and then copy/paste or export to HTML.
